JAN’S PLACE AT MOUNT CARMEL ST ANN'S What is Jan's Place? Jan’s Place, located at Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital, is a cancer support center - home to a philosophy of caring for people affected by cancer - providing the strength, comfort and hope necessary to manage the emotional and physical havoc created by a cancer diagnosis and its treatment. Located in a space that looks more like a warm inviting gathering room, rather than a sterile medical setting, Jan's Place provides a caring and calming environment to address patient and family needs. Who is Jan? Jan’s Place was named after Jan Hurley, a former teacher and Columbus Ski Club president, who passed away from Breast Cancer in 1998. Jan's Place was named in her memory to honor Jan, who "gave so much to her community, friends, and family," through a collaborative effort between the central Ohio community, Mount Carmel St. Ann's and the Mount Carmel Foundation. Jan's Place offers:
Mount Carmel Kathy Boston, a nurse in Westerville, Ohio, has been involved in healthcare for more than 20 years. She has recently developed a line of greeting cards that offer support, encouragement, and understanding to and from patients suffering from cancer and/or other health altering conditions. Many of her cards feature artwork by Ed Hurley. Her card line is also a vehicle for promoting health-related education and knowledge. The back of each card has a web link that will take you to her web site www.kathyscarecards.com for more information about illnesses, diseases and disorders. This web site also allows those contributing their artwork a link offering their designs to others. Unique to this project is Kathy’s
insistence that everyone involved, i.e. artists, illustrators, writers,
printers, lawyers, accountants, distributors, etc., has been touched
personally through family or friends by a health-altering event. Her
vision for this project extends not only to the receivers but to the
givers as well. |
